When W. A. Mozart arrived to Prague in October 1787 to conduct his opera Don Giovanni, he spent most of his time in this villa which was back then a true oasis surrounded by wine yards and fields. It was this very place where the composer finished the famous opera. Today, the Bertramka villa houses an exhibition dedicated to W.A. Mozart, and his hosts – the composer and educator Frantisek Xaver Dusek and his wife, the soprano singer Josefina Duskova. There are seven rooms of exhibition space reminding you of that brief but significant moments of the building’s history. Located in the residential part of the building, the space has been restored to reflect the time of Mozart’s stay and it concentrates memorables about the composer and Mr. And Mrs. Dusek, such as musical instruments, handwritings,letters, engravings and other documents. Though very easy to miss among the other exhibits, the highlight of the collection is thirteen pieces of hair said to have belonged to the composer. Over the past years the Bertramka villa has also became a concert venue with performances held in the building itself and in the18th century sala terrena with original murals from the years 1700 and 1780.

Because of its genius loci, its romantic charm and its particular atmosphere, Bertramka is much sought-after as a location for wedding ceremonies. Depending on personal preference and the weather, the ceremonies can take place on the garden terace on in the sala terrena. The sala leads directly out into the garden with its fountain and a beautiful view out over the Bertramka summerhouse.
