The Tall Synagogue (Vysoka Synagoga) was financed by Mordechai Maisel, mayor of the Jewish district in 1570. In origin the synagogue was connected to the town hall and for this reason that the principal room was built in the first floor. The two buildings were separated in the nineteenth century.
