KUČEROVCI
The Kučerovci band with its specific repertoire and long tradition belongs among the most popular bands not only in the Czech Republic, but also in its neighbouring countries. The name comes from its founder’s name, Mr. Václav Kučera. After the 2nd World War the band was called the Philippines Hawaiians for several years, later in 1953 it changed the name to Soubor Václava Kučery (Václav Kučera Band) and after the founder’s death, it became known under the popular name of “Kučerovci”. The band now performs under this name.
On our musical stage, its most brilliant successes came with hits like CUCURRUCUCU, LA PALOMA, TÚ SOLO TÚ, REGE REGE etc. However, let us leave its long and successful 55 year history and have a look at the present. The band still plays and sings a repertoire coming from Latin America, Spain and encompassing the whole area of the Pacific - Hawaii, Tahiti and Indonesia. They have mastered the rhythms and languages so well that some years ago they made President Sukarna of Indonesia think they were an Indonesian band. Nowadays the repertoire includes mostly Mexican folk music with its typical Mariachi style.
The media are interested in the band so much that at present the Kučerovci have 4 records on the market. “To the South of Rio Grande”, “Mexico, Mexico”, “Hacienda Mexicana” and “Legends under Sombreros”. Last year the band performed in 4 TV shows. Many radio stations play their songs. The attention of the press does not seem to wane. Their music is close to the hearts of those who prefer rhythmic, lively and lyrical music, which is almost completely acoustic, with the exception of the Hawaiian guitar. The brilliant Spanish guitars mix with the soft tones of Paraguayan Indian harp and violin. Bongos, congas and double bass form the musical base.
