Wedding ceremony in Basilica Minor Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary - Svatý Kopeček (The Holy Hill) in Olomouc (catholic church)
The pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a monumental Baroque structure built over the years 1669-1679 according to a design by Giovanni Pietro Tencalla. The church has an impressive two tower facade decorated with statues in niches. The interior of the church is designed as a single nave space with chapels along the sides. The central part is vaulted with a massive dome. Over the years 1714–1721 a second phase of construction followed according to a design by Domenico Martinelli. A side wing, cloister and Chapel of the Virgin Mary were added to the church building. 14 statues, the 12 apostles and two saints, St. Sebastian and St. Roch are situated on the parapets of both side wings.
A number of both local and foreign painters, sculptors and stuccoers contributed to the decoration of the interior of the church. Johann Christoph Handke painted the pendentive dome with allegories of the up until that time known continents. One of Handke’s finest highest quality oil canvases is located in one of the side chapels on the theme of St. Augustine. In addition to a painting of St. Joseph by Tobias Pock, supposedly a disciple of Karel Škréta, one should also mention the altar painting by the Venice oriented Johann Spillenberg. The sculptors Joseph Winterhalter, Georg Anton Heinz and Michael Zürn also contributed a great deal to the overall look of the interior.
The pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary on Svatý Kopeček is an example of a wonderful blending of Baroque architecture into the landscape.
